Emotional Intelligence Tests
Emotional intelligence tests come in all shapes and forms, some are better than others in that they are better validated and more representative of a particular culture. The main types of emotional intelligence tests are:-
- The Ability Based Model
- Emotional Competencies Model
- Trait Model
- Emotional Social Intelligence Model
- Various mixed models
Each model has its supporters and detractors. Because Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence Tests are relatively new there is a lot of academic debate about which is the best model and which produces the most useful test results.
We use the Trait Model as developed by Petrides and Furnham. The advantage of this model is that it does not suggest candidates have a good or bad score, instead it suggests some profiles may be more appropriate for certain jobs and can be used to identify potential development opportunities.
The test comprises 153 statements with Likert type responses. The scores are expressed as percentiles compared to a UK workforce of 1800 people between the ages of 18 and 55. The results are divided into four factors of Well-Being, Self-Contol, Emotionality and Sociability; the four factors are further subdivided into fifteen facets and global traits.
The resulting report is comprehensive with well validated results. The assessment can be completed on-line, it takes about 35 minutes. The report can be sent by e-mail but it is recommended that an accredited person reviews the report with each individual.
